    Default Odinic Names

I was wondering how some of you came up with your names, I call my self Tx Heathen here but that is just a screen name. I always put my real name Clif at the end because it is my connection to the real world. I have been wanting to chose a non Xtian name to replace( prob even legally) my name.
Ok not to cast expressions on anyone but I do not want to just pick something like Cool Guy Thorson/Odinson want it to be real and personal. Any suggestions on how or if there is a process it would be greatly appreciated!

I'm Andrew by my parents' naming of me. I'd probably change it but it was the middle name of my grandfather. I do use a stage name for my bands though, I go by Hrafnkel.

    Hello,

I would say that there is much to tell from a name and in this day and age nothing at all.

I think at one time and in certain places you would not want to put your given name out there as if the wrong people got a hold of that information people could use it for bad things.

Bjorn Asbrandsson is a character from a Saga. Eyrbyggja Saga. I think that he is a guy of some character and cunning and bravery. I do not use in any form out side the internet.

    Default Names.

    Hailsa TH,
I know this is a bit of a cheat but Rekkr came from a list of Dwarvish names at the back of cassells dictionary of Norse Myths by Andrew Orchard,it struck me as amusing to use a Dwarf name as I am over 6' and at the time weighed, well far too much,(have since lost 50lbs,altho still a way to go).It apparently means Warrior,as Asbrandsson I only use it on the net,I have thought about taking a name more in keeping with my heritage, and if wyrd decrees that at some point I take the Oath of Profession I may change my name then,I would probably look to find an old variation of my given name Stephen, perhaps Svein or Svane, would be in keeping after Svein Forkbeard, would probably use Rekkrsson,my Dad was always a bit of a brawler, with a fighters rep!! Not that I have thought about it much

I don’t use any name other than my given one, and see no need to do so. While I certainly recognize that some folks do this and have going reasons for it, it all seems a bit much for me. I guess whether one adopts such a name depends on a lot of factors.

For example, in my case, much of my efforts as a way toward “giving back” to Heathenry is by trying to be a good public relations guy. I think that most outsiders are rather put off by people running around using “fake” names. If anyone reading this thread remembers the whole media thing that went on whenever boxer Cassius Clay took on the Arabic name Muhammad Ali… I don’t really think that Odinists are viewed much differently from Black Muslims in this respect.

I use the original Old Norse of my surname as my screenname and religious name. I am thinking of changing it by deed poll, but that will be in the future.

I'm not using it to hide anything, as my surname and screenname are extremely similar, and if anybody wants to know more, they can just ask!

I currently feel no reason to change my name, not a single element is Christian or from any folk that I'm not part of. Thanks mom and dad!

Well i'm not a fan of my name (Matthew) as it means "Gift of Yahweh" and sounds a bit geeky to me but i'm happy enough with it and I don't have any intentions of ever changing it.

My screen name is just one I chose for this forum, couldn't think of a name so I used the Bathory song i was listening to

I never felt a connection to my birth name, even as a small child. I always disliked it and would have changed it regardless of if I was an Odinist or not.

I chose the name Somerled because that is the name of an important ancestor of mine. Some time ago I legally changed it and it's the name on my social security card, driver's liscense, etc. Everyone knows me by this name, other than my parents of course. Freinds, work, school.

Of course I kept my last name because I will always be a MacDougall. It's my clan, my blood, my heritage. Not to mention my father would probably never recover if I changed my last name.

My post kind of made it sound like my parents were not aware of my new name, which they are. They just don't call me by it.
