ARGHHHH!!!! Physical work!!!! (WHS cleanup 3 sept)

Spent yesterday tidying up the White Horse Stone site with White Horse and a bunch of others from the OR. Carting great lumps of discarder motor car out of the woods and down the hill. The unfamiliar experience of actually doing real work has blown away a few cobwebs!!!!


We had a great time & finished with a blot. THe kids enjoyed it a lot. I expect a few pix will be up on the OR site soon :)

Good work! :) you have, once again, done a greeat and worthy deed. Why not get a newspaper to report on it? Get a letter published on 'how fisgusted you are at the state the area gets in' - it isn;t difficult to get them published and maybe, with permission from the OR, you could get the OR name mentioned - a bit of free advertising so to speak.

Yes, a very enjoyable day once again. Fjorn we have invited the papers to cover our work in the past and they are just not interested.

That is not important though. Our children are learning to look after the land and we are replacing negative energies with positive. These events are also a great exercise in comradeship and community building.

The following posts make up a saga of correspondence that has gone on since the WHS cleanup as somebody took offence top the fact that we had gathered all of this rubbish in one place. He was not concerned when the rubbish was strewn around the countryside.

I am sharing these here as they serve to demonstrate 1. the stupidity of some people, 2. what can be achieved when we do not allow ourselves to be walked over, and 3. the good name that can be achieved by working with local authorities in such endeavours.

Greetings Brothers and Sisters

On Saturday the 3rd the Guardians of the WHS met and carried out the 3rd
clean up of the area. Though there was not as many in attendance this time
we still managed to collect a massive amount of rubbish from the area. It
was a great day and very enjoyable as we managed to combine a lot of hard
work with a great deal of fun. Thank you again for all those that were able
to make it and who put so much effort into clearing the rubbish from this
area.
Sadly not everyone appreciates the work we have done, the e-mail below was
received from a rather stupid member of the public. I will of course be
replying to this fool, but when I have calm down! Of course I am sure that
the members of this list would also like to thank Mr Methuen for his
comments! If you do, please keep the e-mails very polite and to the point. I
will ask Mr Methuen if he would like to meet and attend our clean up! Please
insure that you cc a copy of your e-mail to me also. Thanks and remember,

Despite your obvious lack of common decency I have decided to respond to your
e-mail dated the 4th September 2005.



I should point out that I myself was one of the 14 men, women and children
which cleared the rubbish on Saturday 3rd of Sept from the North Downs. I am a
proud member of the "Guardians of the White Horse Stone" a group which has
cleared vast amounts of rubbish dumped by mindless individuals who have not one
ounce of respect or common decency for the environment. Those individuals that
polluted the woods and continue to pollute the area still on a daily bases by
dropping litter are the morons Mr Methuen, not the men, women and children of
the Guardians who did indeed give up their free time to rid this beautiful area
of the rubbish you saw.



Why do you find it so hard to believe that people are willing to give up their
free time to collect rubbish left by other people? This is the third time the
Guardians of the White Horse Stone have done so since September 2004, though the
site has been regularly litter picked by my family and by members of the Odinic
Rite for many years. You are accusing the members of the Odinic Rite of being
liars and fly tippers! I hope that you can back such claims up in a court of law
Mr Methuen, you may very well need to. We most certainly can provide evidence of
our volunteer work.

see for yourself that people do give up their free time to care for the
environment.



As for being irresponsible in collecting the rubbish and leaving it for the
cancel to collect, I suggest that it is in fact the only suitable location for
the waste to be collected by the councils workmen and this was agreed with the
council prior. As for leaving "ammunition for the yobs", can I ask if you have
ever contacted the council to have them remove the car batteries, which were
left directly next to the bridge over the CTR link for several months because
they were dangerous? Have you ever contacted the CTR people and asked them to
remove the temporary fencing and support feet for the fencing, which was
directly next to the CTR for more than two years as that may have been used as
"ammunition" by yobs? Do you remove stones and rocks, which are, located in the
fields either side of the CTR because they could be used as "ammunition"? I
suspect not Mr Methuen.



It may interest you to know Mr Metheun that all the clean up work that the
Guardians have undertaken has been all part of a campaign run by Kent County
Council called "Clean Kent Campaign". We have carried out our clean up campaign
with the support of Kent County Council and Maidstone Borough Council. We have
also been in direct contact with the North Downs AONB. We have received thank
you cards from KCC for pervious work we have carried out and they have actually
asked to use photos of our pervious clean ups to promote the campaign, so I
would hardly call the actions of the Guardians as irresponsible Mr Methuen, on
the contrary, it should be seen as being a positive step forward to returning
the North Downs and this area in particularly to an enjoyable and litter free
area which people can once again visit without seeing rubbish polluting this
beautiful area.



As for you contacting the police, I welcome any involvement by the police, as
it may very well be that your insulting and offensive comments could well be
seen as illegal under the new Religious Hatred Act.



In closing Mr Methuen, I will of course be passing your e-mail onto the
relevant authorities and to other interested parties as they to may wish to
respond to your insulting religious bigotry.

Greetings All

Well I thought it would a good idea to visit Mr Methuen once I found out where
he worked. He actually works as a maintenance man on the Channel Tunnel Rail
Link at there Blue Bell Hill depot. Unfortunately Mr Methuen was not on shift,
but I had a pleasant meeting with his manager, a Mr Julian Birch. Mr Birch
apologised for the insulting comments made by Mr Methuen and promised to speak
to him asap. Mr Birch was keen for me not to take this matter further until he
had spoken to Mr Methuen and I agreed to this, but made it very clear that
unless we receive a full and unreserved apology from Mr Methuen we would have no
hesitation in taking the matter further.

Now out of bad comes good, or often it does, and this may well be the case here.
Speaking to Mr Birch it may well be possible in future clean ups for Carillion
to provide a skip for the rubbish which they will pay for and remove, rather
than waiting for the very slow council which I have called yet again to chase up
the removal of the rubbish. So I would ask everyone that has not already sent Mr
Methuen and e-mail to hold fire. If we have not received an apology within the
week, we will run again, this time it will be to the top, but lets give Mr
Methuen the chance to correct his actions.

Here is Mr Methuen's apology to us and I understand from Mr Birch, Methuen's
boss that he was sending the apology to all those people that had e-mailed him.
I think we have taught Mr Methuen a valuable lesson, one he will not forget too
soon.

without doubt been noted by this individual and also by his boss. Despite Mr

People usually think that I am weird for my spiritual beleifs, but in the case of reasonable and intellegent people they will usually see things my way if I explain to them that I am not Heathen because I want to be a wacko craving for attention, but because I am practicing the ways of my ancestors and that I beleive in things like courage, personal honor, truth, wisdom, ect. Once it is fully explained, they don't see me as being a wacko and in many cases actually respect me when they find out that I am serious. For an example, I was paying this guy rent for staying in his house. I complained to him that he was charging way too much, that the other room mates where an aggravation, and that I was going to move out when I received my check. He was completely and utterly convinced that I was going to "bail out" on him and not give him his money apon receiving my check (and it would have been very easy to do because we had no lease). However, despite all of his worries I did pay him and he was absolutely shocked because he was so used to dealing with scum bags. At this point he has absolutely no suspicions of Germanic Heathens whatsoever and he even said "I would like to do business with PEOPLE LIKE YOU in the future".

It is more the attitude of people that is the concern. Like the park ranger I spoke to. When I told him I was Heathen he said Oh like Lord of the Rings. Now I didn't have a problem, as he didn't say it maliciously and I can kind of see where the average Joe might think that. But the bloke who wrote to White Horse was deliberately being insulting. It is that sort of rubbish that we have to stand up against. Not by being equally ignorant and childish. But by being polite and let our values and actions speak for us.

We did it again last weekend. We had a great day, finishing off with a blot that was accompanied, after a mostly clear morning and noon, by an eerily timely snow storm - turning the ground white and whipping up the fire to accompany our worship . . . . A great day.
