So, I've made normal mead with store bought honey and that turned out alright except I was impatient and didn't let it age as long as it should.

At my parents house they have a couple of crab apple trees and the fruit just goes to waste year on year. I've heard that crab apple mead is very nice so i thought this year I'd put a batch on.

Does anyone have any recipes that they've tried or any experience with crab apple (sour apple) mead?

I've never had crab apple mead, but I absolutely LOOOOVE crab apple jelly. If your mead doesn't work out, consider making that instead :yipee:

The tree seem to produce hundreds of the things so I'd imagine I'm going to have lots left over!

Maybe I'll try doing crab apple jelly with the left overs!

Hail!
I haven't made crab apple mead before, but I have seen some recipes for it. I don't know if you are a member of Gotmead.com, but they have some great ideas over there. I think my worst batch of mead was the one that involved using currants as the sole fruit addition. That was incredibly sour. I ended up boxing that batch for long-term aging. Maybe I'll open another bottle of that batch in five years? :)
