I received a letter today from a prisoner I correspond with and thought I'd
share with yall what I got from it.
This man has a hard life. Over the past ten months I have learned a lot
about his life. His legal battles have gone nowhere. His jaw was recently
broken. He can only consume liquids because of this and as a result has
lost 30 lbs. During the surgery to fix his jaw one half of his face was
paralyzed, probably permanently. He is not allowed CD's and can only listen
to the radio or watch a 13" television. He will soon be transferred to a
more "secure" institution. Truly a rough existence.
These things are not what is remarkable, as prison is no doubt not a fun
time. What is remarkable is that I have read not a single negative word
from him. His letters are all very positive, upbeat, with little smiley
faces ** : ) ** drawn after he makes a joke. He meditates three times a day
and has stayed on his (our) path thoughout (or because of?) all these
tribulations. And he has never asked me for any money, stamps, etc., as
some others in his situation have.
It is interesting to me that I received and read this letter on the New
Moon, a time, for me, for regeneration. Not only does it reinforce the
knowledge of just how good my life is, he inspires me to always stay
positive and keep on the path of upward personal and spiritual evolution,
and galvanizes my resolve to work toward the New Awakening. This is proof
for me that inspiration can be found in the most unlikely of places, even
from a prison cell.
