I stumbled on this while browsing through Google.

The Ameryske Tunga
The Amerykan Language

Amerykan (Amerysk) is a planned language (invented language) developed by Paal-Eirik Filssunu beginning in 1979. It is composed of Saxon and Scandinavian words. The language is intended to serve as a unifying cultural factor for North American adherents of Asatru, (also called Odinism and Norse Paganism), the folk-religion of Northern Europe and of those of Northern European heritage.

I think it's a pretty cool idea, but I'm not so sure... What do other people think of this?

I do not get it honestly! I have known about Esparanto for a long while and thought it was kind of lame (IMHO). We as a people have plenty of languages we could lern to bring us closer to other European cultures. If you were to lern English, German, or French there would be almost no one in the Western world you could not talk to. But if you lerned one of these made up languages you would have what maybe a couple of thousand at best? It would be a hobby at best.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I mean, the reason for learning a new language should be so that you can communicate to people who you could not communicate to in your own language. While it's a neat idea, I'm doubtful of application to everyday life.

I thought is was a fairly clever idea myself when I first saw it, but no, it wouldn't be usefull for commuicating on more then probaly two or three thousand folk span. Personally, as far as language if you want to go into that kind of direction I don't see one thing wrong with norse or saxon tounges. Why create a mutt speak when the older folk dialects are fine? :p

EXAMPLES:
the mann the man tha menn the men
syst thu thaen mann? do you see the man? syst thu tha menn? do you see the men?
the nama thaes mann is... the name of the man is... the naman thara menn the names of the men
ik gaa (til) thaem hus I'm going (to) to the house. wy gaan (til) thaem huse We're going (to) to the houses.

It's interesting from a purely intellectual standpoint I guess, but I don't see the point  I'd prefer to learn German or something that might be useful...

I personally don't see much point to speak an invented language. If you want to speak something that relates to our forefathers, learn Icelandic, a language that is as close to old Norse as it can be, not some Esperanto style version of our tongues...

Ok, fine, it may be interesting from an intellectual viewpoint, but it will simply never work. For which it is pointless. There would be maybe 5000 people speaking it worldwide, with dialects differing depending on the area, after a few years. It is simply not quite possible.
