hello,

I'm new to odinism and im still young :) so bare with me.
I'm finding it hard to fit into modern life and thinking i am born in the wrong centry
My question is , are there any medieval villages that people still live in, in Norway?
I know there are some in Sweeden but i'd prefer Norway since i found out thats my family origen.

Why would you want to live in a wannabe viking age village? Our folkway is about evolution not living in the past.

The art is that you preserve the old ways into the current century, not set up something that is 500 years ago. Cause that is what you have LARP (live action role playing) for.
Well, apart from that I don't know any.
And I agree with Hved, being an Asatruar got nothing to do with settling in a wannabe viking village. Live for today, not for the past!

I agree. The past is to be remembered and learned from, not recreated. Living in the past stagnates our evolution.

I have felt the same way most of my life, our of place at times, wrong age.
But, if you did go live in a "commune" type village that lives the old ways and trys to pretend that it is another age, would that not be living a lie unto your self?
I know it can be hard, but adaptation to your surroundings is a sign of strength, being self reliant even though you feel out of place. Press on to find your "niche" hold strong to your beliefs and press on, but I would not try to pretens to be someone you are not, it is better to look the adversity in the eye and just laugh at it, you are strong you can do it.

I have always felt I was in the wrong time. But there is nothing you can do about that you have to live for the now. If you believe like me that your soul is passed on through succeeding generations of your family then you already have lived those past lives! I like to think I met an honourable death fighting alongside Harold Godwinson at Hastings.

The best thing we can do is try and make our faith strong in the hearts and minds of our kin. That way the past values and morals of our ancestors will have meaning again. Lets change this world not pine over a past one!

I have also felt that I would have been better suited for a differnt century. However; I have to agree that we have to live in the present instead of mourning the past. We would do well to bring qualities that would benefit us form the past into the present and use them to do our share to evolve in our folkish ways.

If you need to let off a little steam, there are recreation groups such as the Society for Creative Anachronism or other groups that are even more focused on the Germanic peoples, such as Regia Anglorum. These groups also encourage us to look into the everyday lives of our ancestors so that we may better understand where we come from.

thanks for the adivce, I quess i would be living a lie but it would be more satisfying if i could live in a odinist community and not one where "i'm posssed by the devil" community.

Who says you are possessed by the Devil? It says in your profile you are norwegian, do you actually live IN norway? Or is that just your background.

I think it is just the ancestry from Norway, he said that that was his "family origin". Otherwise he would have probably said that it was the "homeland"/"fatherland".

I think we all know exactly how you feel. :)

Still, it doesn't have to be an medaeval community . . .

he said he found out he was norwegian. I think if he lived In norway it would be pretty obvious

A real world, 21st century community would be nice wouldn't it? We'd need our own currency, maybe, at least partically I think... I can REMEMBER something close, it was life in the midwest, USA, in my childhood.
except it was coming to an end, as I was a child in the 60's...

I probably should clear this up, I was born in Norway, lived there for two years then moved to australia. My parents seemed ashamed of something and didnt/wont tell me why we moved.
