When I read, I get confused about the locations of places (Asgard, Ygdrasil, Valhal etc.), and where they stand compared to other places. Is there anywhere I can find an illustration that will help me see and understand where the places mentioned are?

I'm very visual, seeing helps me to learn.

You may get lucky, BlakJupiter, if you do a google search on any of these. I found a lot of websites featuring artists' depictions of the places you mentioned you are interested in seeing.

Sounds good. I tried google, but maybe I just wasn't typing in the right things. Didn't think of naming specific places in the search. *red handprint on forehead*

Ok.. still nothing after 2 hours of google searching. I should be a little more clear though.

What I'm looking for isn't illustrations of what the places look like, but 1 illustration that shows ALL or atleast many of the places mentioned in the Eddas or Sagas or other works.

So it would show Asgard, Midgard, Hel, Ygdrasil, Jotun-heim etc. all in one illustration, pointing out where they are in relation to one another.

Thanks for the help.

Try this: http://books.iuniverse.com/viewbooks.asp?isbn=0595299784&page=fm13

This was taken from the booked Our Father's Godsaga by William P. Reaves which is worth the read by the way!

by William P. ReavesYou mean by Viktor Rydberg ;) Nice find... I'm finally going to order that book from a second-hand bookshop soon, just waiting for an answer regarding its condition.

Times like this I wish I had a scanner, cause one of my rune books has a really good illustration of the world tree and all the realms. Love being useless :p

THANK you, that is exactly what I'm looking for. I was beginning to think that this didn't exist, heh. This should make it alot easier for me to visualize. But yeah, if anyone else has a similar illustration I'd love to see it.

And I'll have to check out that book for sure.

It’s not a map, but you might find this description (http://www.squirrel.com/asatru/nidhad/Mythic_Geography_and_Modern_Translations.txt) interesting and useful.

If you get the book: Norse Myths, Gods of the Vikings, there is a very nice illustration indeed. Also a really good read too!

Kevin Crossley-Hollands book "The Norse Myths" has a nice little picture/diagramish thing of yggdrasil and the nine worlds

The best "map" I have seen in the Circle Of Ostara's book "Odinic Mythology: part One" available through the OR.

I found this map a while back when I was fiddling with Google Images:

It's a pretty interesting interpretation of the Nine Worlds. Some Asatru vets may disagree with this depiction, but for Odinist newbies such as myself, it's a good place to start. I found it very difficult to visualize the "anatomy" of the Nine Worlds until I found this image.

Craziest thing. After reading this post and reaching for my copy of this book, I opened it right to the page of the diagram. pg xxii. I think it's as good as any I've seen.
