My wife and I went totally organic about a year ago and haven't looked back since. Most people who eat organic food say, "I'd forgotton what real food tasted like, it's so tasty" to which the sceptics reply "Nah, it's just a placebo effect. It tastes no different".

When I have this conversation with people I usually stop talking at this point as I'm happy to eat natural, fresh and TASTY food and leave my antagonist eating chemical ridden, unnatural Frankenstein like garbage! And we haven't had any viral illnesses, colds and so forth, stomach upsets etc. since we went organic and friends who eat organic food have noticed this as well.

We have fresh, seasonal, organic vegetables and fruit delivered to our door every week through an organic box scheme. Basically you pay a set amount each week and have a box of vegetables, and fruit if you want, delivered to your door. Obviously if you want more, you can contact the sellers and buy as much as you want.

For those in the UK, if you put your details into the website I've put below it will give you the addresses of box schemes in your area.

Not a bad idea. But what about meat, milk and cheese? Breads? Are you eating just fruits and vegetables?

No, we’re still committed carnivores! ;)

Whilst organic vegetables and fruit are very reasonable in the UK, meat is a different matter. Organic meat can be incredibly expensive. We’ve found that most meats are reasonably priced (in Tesco), but organic chicken is double the cost anywhere.

Tesco have made a point of selling organic produce at the same price as their other products – this includes meat. We buy everything as organic as possible, from eggs to pasta to coffee. In general, though, we’re aware that Tesco tend to import organic produce which we understand is detrimental to the environment on the whole (lorries, airplanes, general traffic, manhandling costs, etc). Therefore, we often buy meat from local, well-established suppliers. As a rule it’s better for the environment, quite often, to purchase local produce than to buy organic for the sake of it.

But the quality, and the taste, of the meat, is so different and so much better than the swill that is usually on offer elsewhere.

Sounds good, I have found a local organic shop where I go any how, but I didn't know they did this box thing. I'll query them direct about delivery

I remember when I was growing up, my family would go to my aunt and uncle's farm and butcher chickens for the season. These were the traditional range-fed, typical chicken coup chickens. Boy, were they ever great tasting! I have never tasted better chicken since.

I don't get any more chicken from my aunt and uncle ever since the propane heater exploaded the chicken coup, but that's another story. :p
