Hey everyone!!!!
My parents live in Qatar and my mother gives me spices as gifts because they're so expensive here and so cheap by comparison there. She sent me a wad of saffron that fits into a Danish butter cookie tin (I don't know how much exactly, my saffron wad is about 6 inches wide and 2 inches thick....it's a lot of saffron).
Anyway....I believe in sharing the wealth. She also sent me a box of Frankincense and Myrrh resin which I divvied up and shared with the folks at work, many of whom are from various parts of the world that routinely burn such resins. I also gave out little baggies containing generous pinches of saffron to those who I knew would be appreciative cooks.
Sooooo.......if you would like some saffron, send me a note to my email, esthetika@gmail.com but not to this thread or forum because this probably isn't the place for handing over your mailing address.
Give me a chance to get back to you on the cost of mailing it, and to find out if I even can mail this (it is a plant substance, after all) to you. I would be happy to dole out some generous pinches of saffron to those who can't afford it. I know that in the grocery stores here, a tiny little container with about seven to ten threads sells for over ten dollars. You only need a tiny amount to cook with, just one to three threads to soak in hot water and add to your cookpot to flavour soups, stews, and sauces. A lifetime supply of saffron is considered to be about 30gms.
Let me know, I am happy to share what I have with other folk because if I hoard it up, it will only go to waste.
Frith,
Nicole
