The recent discovery of Romani DNA in an Anglo Saxon skeleton has made experts re-think the nature of the city's early population.

Experts from Norfolk Archaeology Unit based at Norwich Castle have discovered a rare form of mitochondrial DNA identified as Romani in a skeleton discovered during excavations in a large area of Norwich for the expansion of the castle mall.

The DNA was found in an 11th century young adult male skeleton, and with the first recorded arrival of the Romani gene in this country put at 500 years later, historians may need to re-think the ethnic mix of the city's early population. continued... I hardly see how one skeleton can autmatically consitute an entire population. Thats like someone a thousand years from now digging up John Merrik and assuming a substantial amount of people looked like the elephant man. It is most likely just chance that the skeleton was of a Romani, as an individual could have easily made itr to Norwich as a merchant or something. Seems like another case to me of leftys trying to push the old "England is a mongrel nation" spin again.

to have anglo-saxon ,ie germanic genes would a fuss be made, of course not

Lol - typical! And they tell us not to generalise but do it themselves! So, maybe one or two Romani lived there, as outpost priests. Priests not mating, mind you. So, of course, it must be an element in the entire population! Pfff - just another case of telling us, "hey, we are all still Africans, just with narrower noses and light pigment." I'm not going to go into the Black-White-Asian physical and mental spectrums, nor into the upbringings, the speed of growth nor the environmental influences - all of which prove the existence of race - as it does little to the point. THe point is that it is just another left-wing attempt to prove how ancient N. Europe was a racially diverse entity, possibly to justify Black Beowulf, and the dilution of our culture as an experiment, against the Darwinian notion that two subspecies of one species never exist in one area aside each other by nature. :rolleyes:

Well, I am better stopping, otherwise this is going to get really militant as regards my personal opinions of the PC brigade - and I just don't want that to publically happen. ;)
