Hello, I am new to Asatru. Not new to the dieties, as I loved to read all about norse mythos when I was a very young child. Maybe even then I was drawn to this religion because of my roots. I am German, Scots, Norweigan and English.

I live in the good ol' Christian midwest, so you can be sure there are not too many Odinists out here! :( Can anyone tell me about solitary practice and how it differs from being part of a group that would meet in a hof? I would appreciate all the help I could get!

You would be amazed at the # of Heathens in the Mid-West...
Try the Irminsul Aettir's (http://www.irminsul.org/aw/awusa.html) website for a good listing of Heathens in your area...

There are heathens all over the place, the only thing is finding/getting into contact with them.

As for solitary practice, there are no heathens around me so im basically alone when it comes to celebration and ritual. I dont let it get me down, I honour the gods every day with the way I live, always trying to be a better person each day, I perform personal ritual like the hammersign when I wake up and honour the gods in my own special ways every day. There is no official set way to celebrate our folkway or honour the gods, many groups have their own different ways I just go with what feels right for me.

Rune meditation is something ive been getting into over the last few months and its been helping a lot. If you do something and it feels right for you then you are practicing the right way.

Heilsa earthgoddess! Welcome to the forum. The internet is an invaluable tool for the solitary Odinist! Forums like these are great for that purpose. But do make sure you look around -- there are tons of groups and individuals out there!

It doesn't matter if you have 30 Odinists around you or you are alone.

It is in your heart and body and when you walk with the gods you are following our ways.

Learn all you can and if you have to practice alone, so be it.

I'm glad you decided to go back to your roots and join the family. :)

Hello, there!

It doesn't matter if you have 30 Odinists around you or you are alone.

Sure, but it is always good if you have someone with whom to share your views.

That's why I come here. These people share my views. I prefer the solitary practice. Mmm Solitude.
