Mr. and I would like to have family and friends join us in an Odinist ceremony to renew our marriage vows. We were married in a Christian ceremony because thats the only way the prison chaplain would approve it and we needed the legality of marriage. Now that he's coming home in 4 months, we want to do it OUR way!!

First is there a gothi in Michigan who would be willing to travel to the Thumb area to guide us into the next step our our lives??

Second.... I'm swaying between 3 choices

1 - doing this at home
2 - seeing if my former brother in law will allow us to use his hunting preserve (beatiful pond with an island, place to camp and a huge outbuilding in case of rain).
3 - going to a local campground and inviting family and friends to join us for the weekend

We are just in the beginning stages.. I'm open to any thoughts and ideas!!

Hey MrsD! Glad you hear you are having another ceremony.. my hubby and I plan on doing it again too once we can even though we could have an Odinist ceremony, but still, we want to have a huge celebration! Why can't combine options 2 & 3? Have the ceremony at the pond place and then head to a campground? That sounds like fun to me!

I haven't asked my ex brother in law YET, but if he says yes he'll let us camp there as well. His long time girlfriend doesn't like me so I'm not sure if he will say yes... if she has a hissy fit then he'll have to say no to keep the peace. :D Its a beautiful place. The pond is HUGE and he has a boat that would take everyone out to the island. I just don't know if the witch will be OK with it being me...

I'm also undecided as to what we will wear.... I'm leaning toward us dressing as our Viking ancestors would have... but I'm not sure if my hubby will go along with that. If not then it will be very casual.. well I'll wear something fantastic because I'll have lost at least 100 pounds by that time!!

I have an article somewhere around here or at work that I will send you when I find it... It will help somewhat in some of the traditional ideals that went into a wedding...

Thanks Lonnie, I appreciate that!!!!

Katia.. I'm having Gastric Bypass Surgery on January 24th. Its a last ditch effort on my part to get healthy. I've tried for many years to lose weight and always end up gaining it back so I'm going to have the surgery. Its a huge step and I wish I could have done this on my own, but I wasn't able to... but soon I'll be a NEW but smaller woman ;)

Hail Mrs.Dragon!

I preformed a nice Scottish/Odinist wedding for a Hearth Sister and Brother a coupla years ago.... We used the Book of Blotar ritual for the wedding and added traditional Scottish elements. It was nice with a pipers and drummers in the beautiful Silver Falls park in Oregon. It was funny, I think there were 60 people in attendence and there were parts of the ceremony where folks have to repeat sections. Well I made a hand signal, thinking it was disreet enough to alert the wedding party, so the whole crowd wouldn't think they had to...well...we happened to have Hearth members sprinkled through out the audience repeating the pieces, so....lol....the whole crowd did :).

Nothing like christians repeating:

We shall not fail to defend Family and Folk and our Holy religion from the force of spears and the powers of fate. In the name of Thor we shall have strength! In Freya's name we shall hold our faith! In the name of Tyr we shall have justice! We shall rise again! These things we swear in Odin's name. Hail Aesir and Vanir! Hail their folk! (Book of Blotar)

Maybe the wonderful lady that was married will post things about her wedding :)
