VILLAGERS who protested that a new housing estate would “harm the fairies” living in their midst have forced a property company to scrap its building plans and start again.

The local wights are still honored in Britain as well as Iceland it seems. Don't know if we have faeries of the spiritual variety here in Vinland, the kind I find most preferable, lol. ;)

Planning guidance states that local customs and beliefs must be taken into account when a developer applies for planning permission.”
:yipee:
Too bad that guidance isn't law in many places!

The new estate will now centre on a small park, in the middle of which stands a curious rock. Work begins next month, if the fairies allow.
Ideally they should leave the whole place alone. Good on the villagers and Betty Neish McInnes for sticking up for their anceint local traditions in the face of some new apartment block or whatever. There's too much of this happening in Britain and Ireland.

I think I heard faries before in New Kent Co. Virginia about 15 years ago when I was in high school. It was kind of spooky ,I didn't know what it was and it sounded like some high pitch cartoonish voices, laughing and giggling and I wasn't under the influence of any substance. When I read this thread it brought that memory back to me, still spooky. No Joke LOL

People leave offerings to an elf in a hole in a tree by Lake Harriet here in Minneapolis.

There is a Nix that lives in this brook that goes through the forest that I occasionally attend.........
